A Magical Night at the Santa Fe Opera

Friday, August 23, 2019 4:30pm – 9pm

516 ARTS presents an all-inclusive trip to experience the height of opera season at the Santa Fe Opera. Join us for the final night of The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet on Friday, August 23. A fundraiser for 516 ARTS, the trip is led by our Board Chair Danny López and Cherie Montoya, owner of Farm & Table. A chartered luxury bus will depart from Albuquerque at 4:30pm. Participants will enjoy a pre-show tailgate dinner provided by the opera 5:30–7pm, followed by a wine toast and the opera at 8pm.

ABOUT THE PEARL FISHERS:
Can anything possibly surpass a midsummer night at the Santa Fe Opera? How about being simultaneously transported to tropical shores on waves of dreamy melody? Bizet’s first stage success is set in ancient times on the shores of Ceylon, where Zurga, ruler of the pearl fishers, is reunited with his long-lost comrade Nadir. Their friendship duet, which recounts a mutual passion for the heavenly Leila, is the epitome of bromance in music. Both men renounced her to save their friendship, but her unexpected return soon traps them again in the snares of love, and now they must make a choice. Conductor Timothy Myers and director Shawna Lucey lead this revival of our stunning 2012 production, which was called “The best of this summer’s season,” by The Wall Street Journal, “True to the letter and the spirit of the work,” by the Chicago Tribune, and “An unqualified success,” by the Denver Post.
